
THE WORLD GOES ROUND

The first show of Foothills Theatre's season is "The World Goes Round" is a musical revue of Kander and Ebb. Included are some of their collaborations from "Cabaret", "Chicago", "The Kiss of the Spiderwoman'', "Woman of the Year", "The Rink", "Funny Lady", "Liza with a Z'', "Flora, the Red Menance", "The Act", "The Happy Time", "70 Girls 70" and "New York, New York". It is chronicled in song and dance by five fabulous performers under the direction/choreography of Branch Woodman and the music direction of Fred Frabotta. It is a musical treat from start to finish with inventive direction and dance numbers from Branch and the excellent music direction of Fred with all the fantastic harmonies in the group numbers. The show is rewarded with a well deserved standing ovation at the close of the night for its brilliance.
The five outstanding performers are Amy Barker, A'lisa D. Miles, Rebekah Jacobs, Jon Peterson and Andrew Giordano. Amy is a tall, statuesque, brunette who shows off her voice in "Colored Lights" from "The Rink", "How Lucky Can You Get" from the movie "Funny Lady", "Ring Them Bells" from "Liza with a Z'' and "Isn't This Better'' from "Funny Lady". A'lisa shows off her strong voice in "And the World Goes Round" from "New York, New York", "My Coloring Book" Kander and Ebb's first song, "Only Love'' from "Zorba'' and "Maybe This Time" from the movie "Cabaret". ( She and Amy have duets on "Class" from "Chicago" and "The Grass Is Always Greener" from "Woman of the Year".) Rebekah who is a petite, blonde with a gorgeous soprano voice gets to show off her dancing prowess in this show in "Arthur in the Afternoon" from "The Act" where she does a spread eagle on Andrew's head during it, "All That Jazz" from "Chicago", "A Quiet Thing" from "Flora, the Red Menance" and a long tap dance segment with Jon to a medley of songs. (It was exhausting just watching them do this wonderful dance.) Jon gets to show off his singing voice in"Sara Lee" from "The Act" where multitude of desserts appear on stage in a carriage pushed by Amy and A'Lisa, "Sometimes a Day Goes By" from "Woman of the Year", "Mr. Cellophane" from "Chicago" and "Marry Me" from "The Rink". Andrew shows off his strong tenor voice in "The Happy Time" and "I Don't Remember Your" from "The Happy Time", "Kiss of the Spiderwoman" from "Kiss of the Spiderwoman" and "We Can Make It'' from "The Rink". Some of the spectacular company numbers include "Coffee in a Cardboard" from "70 Girls 70" where they get more hyper from the caffeine in their coffee, "Me and My Baby" where all five performers sing and play banjos during it, "The Rink" where they dance on roller skates, the five part harmony on "Cabaret" and the singing of "New York, New York" in French, Japanese, German, Swedish and the American version belted out by A'Lisa dressed as the Statue of Liberty with a burning torch in her hand. A standing ovation ensued after this segment. So run to Worcester to get your tickets for this superb show, to see awesome singers and dancers perform Kander and Ebb like you have never seen before.
