Mill River Players' current show is the British comedy, "Nobody's
Perfect" written by Simon Williams. Love Is All Around is a feminist
publishing house where Harriet Copeland is running a competition to find new
romantic fiction; their motto is 'For Women By Women'. To avoid this gender
bias, Leonard Loftus, a staid statistician, is forced to submit his novel
under a female pseudonym. So when Myrtle Banbury wins the first prize,
Leonard begins to have a major problem. With complications from his wayward
teenage daughter Dee Dee and Gus, his rascally old father, Leonard tries
frantically to keep up the charade of Myrtle. His problems are made worse
when he hopelessly falls in love with Harriet. He is a worried man in the
guise of a carefree woman. What will happen if Harriet finds out about
Myrtle? In the tradition of "Some Like It Hot", "Tootsie" and Mrs.
Doubtfire", this crazy madcap show will provide you with many laughs along
its merry way. Director Chuck PetitBon casts this show with talented
performers with excellent British accents for a fun filled evening complete
with a delicious before show dinner.
Returning to the stage after a long hiatus, Larry Cagle tackles the
roles of Leonard Loftus and Myrtle Banbury and does a splendid job in both.
The dialogue flow effortlessly whether he is the shy statistician or the
Dame Edna look alike Myrtle. Larry is a terrific actor and he sells his one
liners perfectly. Congratulations to Larry and his wife, Jen on their
impending birth of their first baby in October. Lee Rush plays the feminist
editor, Harriet. She does an excellent job as the befuddled woman who has
conversations with Leonard as himself and Myrtle. Her reactions are
priceless and she brings her comedic talents to the forefront in this role.
Eric Kahn plays Gus, the forgetful father who is also a dirty old man. His
reaction to seeing Leonard dressed up as Myrtle is hilarious and his
plotting with his granddaughter to get money from his son is funny, too.
Danielle Cameron, a student at Dean College, plays Dee Dee, the cigarette
smoking, constantly in a bad mood daughter who always wears black and
constantly busts her father's chops. She is a beautiful blonde who does a
great job in this role. Stage manager Cherry Cartier keeps things running
smoothly and makes an appearance in the play as a suspicious neighbor who
overhears Myrtle on the phone. Kudos to Chuck and his cast and crew on this
wonderful show. Also a word of praise for Chuck's preparation of the
sumptuous before show dinner. The meal consists of all you can eat chicken
vegetable soup, rolls and butter, carrots and string beans, oven roasted
white and sweet potatoes with Italian seasonings and an apple turnover with
caramel sauce. There are various entrees and for this show I had the melt in
your mouth stuffed fish. So for a fun filled evening of dinnertainment, be
sure to catch "Nobody's Perfect" at Mill River Players.
