BOX OFFICE OPENING
MATUNUCK, RI – Theatre By The Sea owner and producer Bill Hanney, Producing Artistic Director Amiee Turner and Managing Producer Joel Kipper are proud to announce the opening of the box office for single ticket sales to the four shows scheduled for the 2008 Summer Season, celebrating Theatre By The Sea’s 75th Diamond Anniversary Season*. Beginning on Monday, April 28 at 10:00 am, patrons may purchase tickets to any or all of the following spectacular Broadway musicals:
Ain’t Misbehavin’: This Tony Award winner for Best Musical is still considered one of Broadway’s best! The musical soul of 1930s Harlem lives on in this rollicking, swinging, finger-snapping and humorous tribute to the music of the inimitable “Fats” Waller, who rose to international fame during the Golden Age of the Cotton Club. This exuberant revue includes the familiar songs “Honeysuckle Rose,” “The Joint is Jumpin’,” “Mean to Me,” “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and many more. Ain’t Misbehavin’ will be presented from May 28 - June 15.
George M!: A tribute to Rhode Island’s own and the celebration of America and the Fourth of July, this spectacular, fast paced patriotic musical follows the great song-and-dance man, George M. Cohan, over a 60-year period from his childhood on the vaudeville circuit to New York where he began his 25-year reign over the Broadway stage. This giant of the American musical theatre gave us such songs as “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” “Over There,” “You’re A Grand Old Flag” and “Give My Regards to Broadway.” Tap dancing, flag waving and the American Dream, make this triumphant musical perfect for the whole family! George M! will be presented from June 18 - July 12.
Evita: Andrew Lloyd Webber’s seven-time Tony Award-winning blockbuster, is a stirring musical based on the life of Eva (Duarte) Peron – actress, mistress and eventual wife to Argentine dictator Juan Peron. As first lady, Evita becomes the protector of Argentina's poor and downtrodden opening a cornucopia of social assistance organizations. The eclectic musical score by Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom of the Opera) and Tim Rice (Lion King) mixes jazz, Latin and rock influences into a modern opera that soars with such tunes as “On This Night of a Thousand Stars,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” and the internationally acclaimed hit “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.” A sweeping theatrical experience as complex as the woman herself. Evita will be presented from July 16 - August 3.
The Producers: Based on Mel Brooks’ Academy Award-winning 1968 film, this bawdy Broadway sensation is the story of down-on-his-luck theatrical producer Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, a mousy accountant. Together they hatch the ultimate scam: raise more money than needed for a sure-fire Broadway flop and pocket the difference. Their “sure-fire” theatrical fiasco? None other than the musical Springtime for Hitler. Sweeping the 2001 Tony Awards to become the most awarded show in Broadway history, The Producers is one of funniest, most irreverent shows ever written, featuring a hit score including “When You Got It, Flaunt It,” “We Can Do It,” “I Wanna Be a Producer” and “Prisoners of Love.” Definitely for those adults who aren’t afraid to laugh out loud, this show does include adult content. The Producers will be presented from August 6 - 31.
