Pawtucket, RI Auditions for Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs Auditions will be held April 11 & 12, 7 pm
Brighton Beach Memoirs brings to life the family of Eugene Jerome, Neil Simon’s teenage alter-ego in Depression-era Brooklyn, 1937. Eugene dreams of the Yankees and the opposite sex, while facing challenges that ensue when his aunt and female cousins have to move in. The decisions the family faces are serious and life-changing, but filled with humor and love. Director Brian Mulvey is looking for the following cast with the following playing age ranges: Eugene (age 14): the narrator and central character. Obsessed with questions of puberty and sex, he is thoughtful and humorous. Stan (18): the “big brother”, offering advice, but creating problems while trying to do what is right in the workplace and at home. Kate (40): the mother – the strong center of the household, protective and often judgmental. Jack (40+): the father – beleaguered by everyone’s problems while he faces personal and financial challenges. Blanche (38): the aunt - a live-in widow struggling to make the right choices for herself and her children, including potential new romance. Nora (16): a cousin – physically attractive with a chance to be a Broadway showgirl. Laurie (13): a cousin – the “little sister”, pampered because of health problems. Auditions will be held April 11 & 12, 7 pm at Jenks Auditorium, Division Street, Pawtucket (across from McCoy Stadium), and will consist of cold readings from the script. Production dates are June 11-13 and 18-20 at Jenks Auditorium. Rehearsal nights TBA – please come with potential rehearsal conflict dates (i.e., vacations, dates/times you are not available).

ABOUT THE SHOW Drew Charteris, a self-centered, arrogant theatre critic refuses to let his 17 year-old daughter marry the successful young playwright she loves. Clara, a friend of the family schemes with the young girl to outwit the pompous father with the help of the girl's fiancee in this delightful farce, adapted from a classic Moliere comedy. The story rides an escalating wave of hilarity with a touch of a 21st century Marx Brothers lunacy at it's best. “You always tickle my funny bone.” -Jerry Stiller. “Norman Beim is a “rara avis”: a professional playwright. He is what the theatre needs.” -Tony Randall.
